Reel Palestine: Shushbarak Making Workshop with Haya’s Kitchen
It’s time to make shushbarak together – also known as shish barak or tawa2ee (hats)! It is one of the most comforting winter dishes incorporating little dough parcels filled with spiced meat in a warm yoghurt sauce with tons of garlic and coriander.
These little dumplings are notorious for taking ages to be made, but they are a childhood favorite among many Palestinians. Tetas would sit and batch make them and freeze them for the winter season to warm everyone’s souls.
In true Haya’s Kitchen fashion and in preservation of this tradition, you’re invited to join our shushbarak making workshop. During the session, you’ll get to learn about the making of the dough and filling, understand the technique of shushbarak shaping, listen to Haya’s tales and traditions, and work together as a community to make shushbarak for your next gathering. Once you’re done, you’ll have the chance to sit down and enjoy some of Haya’s homemade shushbarak with vermicelli rice to end the session.
Please note that the workshop and lunch include beef and dairy and there are no vegetarian alternatives available.
