16 May Storytelling in Motion Workshop
In this workshop, participants will learn some of the basic techniques for telling stories through movement, both in groups and individually. The aim is to provide participants with some practical tools to both create and understand movement that communicates concepts and emotions. The workshop will be appropriate for practitioners (performers, actors, directors, etc) as well as anyone interested in accessing a new form of expression and storytelling. No prior experience is required. There are no restrictions on physical ability, however, participants should be prepared to be active throughout the workshop duration.
Topics will include:
1 – How stories translate into movement and the types of stories that fit well with movement
2 – Space, composition, and visual metaphors – simple techniques to tell big stories in groups
3 – Emotions as physical qualities
The workshop will consist of roughly one hour of guided work and exercises to understand the concepts, and then participants will have the chance to develop their own stories in individuals or groups to share with everyone at the end.
